Looking at the world of fiction and popular culture... and things The Simpsons did before reality.
Protests over the statue of Michelangelo's David...
The Simpsons, Season 2 episode 9 (20 December 1990)... "Itchy & Scratchy & Marge" is about Marge trying to get the violence in "Itchy & Scratchy" censored. Her success lead to people in Springfield to come to her to protest the nudity of the famous statue David (which is, you know, being displayed in Springfield.) Unfortunately for the protesters, Marge believes it is art and doesn't think that it should be censored...
Melbourne, Australia, 2015 (Warning: Link contains uncensored statue genitalia)... Amanda Perkovic puts a copy of the statue up in her yard. Some neighbours complained, in fear of children seeing the marble penis. But many were upset it would attract vandals and the next door neighbour was upset by the size and the fact it block their view. When asked about the nudity she nonchalantly replied, "To each their own."
I knew she was soft on nudity.
